Digitalization in Social Work: How Tafel.app Shapes the Future of Food Banks

Tafel.app Project

Digitalization of social work with heart and mind

With nationwide deployment, over 300,000 hours of volunteer work could be saved annually through intelligent digitalization – without losing the human component. Digitalization doesn’t stop at any sector – not even social work.

An example of this is Tafel.app, a platform we developed at WebPX for Motus UG. This solution shows how technology and humanity can work hand in hand.

Note: The apps were fully developed and are available in the app stores. However, a planned pilot project with Tafel Deutschland did not materialize. Read more about our learnings β†’

The Challenges of Analog Food Bank Work

Traditional food bank work faces enormous challenges that can be solved through intelligent digitalization. Our analysis reveals four main problem areas:

Traditional Challenges

1
Time-consuming Customer Management

Paper-based systems are inefficient

2
Confusing Appointment Scheduling

Queues and chaos during distribution

3
Resource Waste

Over 7.5 tons of waste annually just for ID cards

4
High Personnel Effort

Volunteers spend too much time on administration

Tafel.app: Our Flagship Project for Digital Transformation

The Future of Social Work is Digital

Tafel.app demonstrates how digitalization can make social work more efficient without losing its humanity. Although the project did not go into productive use, it shows that technology and social responsibility can go hand in hand.

Learn More About Tafel.app

Although the project did not go into productive use, we learned a lot from it. The apps are still available in the app stores and demonstrate what would be technically possible.
